Psalms 16:7-8 – I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

The key to understanding Psalm 16 is found in Acts 2:25-28 where Peter quotes verses 8-11 as referring to the Resurrection of Christ. We find Christ praising the Lord God for the faithful way He continually provided guidance and counsel throughout His life. Even during the many hours of sleeplessness, as He prayed and meditated on God’s Word, His heart had instinctively instructed Him. Far from being wasted, the time spent with God in prayer was a benefit to His comfort and blessing.
