Psalm 138:2 – I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

“For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” The context has to do with the faithfulness of God in keeping His word, and the meaning seems to be that He has not only done what He said He would, but has done much more in addition. Also there may be the thought that “in the abundant fulfilment of His promise (to David) God had surpassed all previous revelations of Himself.” If the verse is applied to the Incarnate Word, then it means, of course, that God has magnified the Lord Jesus above every other manifestation of Himself. Wow!

Challenge:

This past Sunday, we learned the importance of God’s name and how it reflects His character. We looked at how powerful His name is and how we must respect and rightly represent His name at all times. In this weeks verse David clearly shows you that as high as God esteems His name, He places even greater value on both His written word and the Living Word which is Jesus Christ. If God places that much value on His word so must you. This week your challenge is to focus on God’s word. I ask you to find a scripture or scriptures from the bible and then make every effort to make that your goal for the week. For instance, the bible says that we are to let our light shine, so in this case you would do everything in your power to show the love of Jesus upon others. In this way you will be both magnifying God’s word and His name. God bless you.
