2 Peter 1:2-4 – Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

God has not only given you all that you need for this life and godliness, but He has also given you His Word which enables you to develop this life and godliness. These promises are great because they come from a great God and they lead to a great life. They are precious promises because their value is beyond calculation. When you believe in Jesus Christ, the Spirit of God uses the Word of God to impart the life and nature of God within you. A godly life includes two primary ideas. First, it describes an attitude of reverence in the presence of one who is majestic and divine. Secondly, a godly life describes actions of obedience. At the heart of godly living and spiritual transformation is an attitude of reverence toward God and actions of obedience. The source of strength that enables you to move in this direction is His divine power. These words describe the work of God’s Holy Spirit in your life. He provides you with gifts and the ability to use those gifts. God’s design is that through the power of the Holy Spirit, you are assisted in living a godly life. Exceedingly great and precious promises refers to the promises Jesus gave during his earthly life. In John’s Gospel Jesus promises you the continual presence of the Holy Spirit to assist in obedience.

Challenge:

What promises has God given to you personally? I want you to consider how God has promised to care for you and your needs. Though you may not have received His promise just yet, remember, He that promised is faithful. He will carry out His promise to you just when you need it most. Your challenge this week is to thank God for the promises He has given to you. Having a promise from God gives you hope during the waiting period for the promise to be fulfilled, because a promise from God is a sure promise. I would encourage you to write down everything you believe God has promised you. That way, you can go back and be reminded of just how the Lord is going to work in your life. When you finally do receive your promise from the Lord, be sure to give Him your praise and thankfulness. Be sure to let others know exactly what God has done for you. That way they can also be grateful for what God is doing. We all need to be reminded that God is still at work in this world. God bless you.
