Luke 17:10 – So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’

A disciples responsibility toward God is humble service. You should not expect special praise for doing the things you are expected to do. You do not get special praise from your boss for doing you job. Likewise disciples of Christ have specific responsibilities which they are to fulfill in humility as God’s unworthy servants. The word translated “unprofitable” means “without need” which means “nobody owes us anything.” The statement means, “My master does not owe me anything extra.” The fact that Jesus will reward you as His servant is completely a matter of God’s powerful grace in your life.

Challenge:

What exactly is your specific duty to do? For starters, absolute obedience to God’s word in every area of your life. Which includes loving and serving God by the power of the Holy Spirt and loving and serving others without expecting anything in return. Your challenge this week is to do that thing God has asked you to do that you have been putting off. Perhaps there is someone in your life that you have to forgive, talk to them this week and tell them you forgive them. Maybe you need to ask for forgiveness from a family member, before Thanksgiving day ask them to forgive you. Do something nice for someone you work with this week and ask them how you can be praying for them. May you have the peace of God with you this week as you obey His word and do His will. God bless you and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving holiday.
