1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Joy can be a constant experience in your Christian walk because Christ is the source and subject of your joy, even in the most adverse circumstances, He is in control. Prayer should be your constant attitude. You pray at certain regular times and you pray in the moment a need arises; then you experience the joy of continual communion with the Lord through prayer. Giving thanks to God should be your habitual emotion. If Romans 8:28 is true, then you should be able to praise the Lord at all times, in all circumstances, and for everything; just as long as you are not excusing sin in doing so. These three good habits have been called the standing orders of the church. They represent the will of God in Christ Jesus for all believers. In His word Christ Jesus reminds us that He taught these things during His earthly ministry and He is the living embodiment of what He taught. By teaching and by example, He revealed to us God’s will concerning joy, prayer, and thanksgiving.
Challenge:
The person who is always joyful and willing to consistently pray, will find themselves thankful in every situation. Whatever your plans are for Thanksgiving be sure to include a time of reflection for all that you are thankful for. Challenge yourself today to be thankful in and for everything that happens to you. Right now be thankful to God for this day. Show gratitude toward your loved ones regardless of past hurts or mistakes. Remember that God has given you your family for a reason. Kiss your babies, hug your children, and tell your family how much you love them. Hold your spouses hand and let them know how much you appreciate all they do. Laugh with your friends while making wonderful memories. Hold all these moments, with your loved ones, close to your heart and let them be a beautiful reminder of God’s unconditional love. Be sure to be kind to strangers that you see throughout your day and look for opportunities to lend a helping hand. Do not get so caught up in the business of the season that you miss the chance to show the Lords love. May this day be spent thanking your God, serving your Savior, and being a blessing to others.
