Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

It’s absolute foolishness to put your trust in material possessions or wealth. Jesus makes it crystal clear in these verses that there are many forces that will consume those things here on earth. Only those things you deposit in heaven will remain for all eternity. These are the thing Jesus wants you to be consumed with. If you find yourself consumed with maintaining your earthly possessions, then your priorities are out of order. Because those things will not be around eternally, they are only temporal. God wants your focus to be on Him and in turn He will help you maintain a proper perspective on your earthly belongings.

Challenge:

What are the things of greatest value to you? Take a moment and think about what brings you the most joy in your life. Then ask yourself “Will this last forever?” Heavenly treasures are not things you hold in your hand but you do hold them in your heart. Your challenge this week is to spend more time with the eternal blessings in your life. Take a walk around the block or through the park with your oldest child. Take your spouse to Sweet CeCe’s for a sugary treat. Invite a family you have not seen in awhile to the zoo with your family. Store up some wonderful memories this week and see how much joy you will deposit up in the heavenlies. God bless you and keep you.
