Colossians 1:9 – For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Even though Paul had heard the good report from Epaphras about the believers in Colossi, he continued to pray for them. Paul’s ceaseless prayer means that he never forgot to pray for them when he daily and regularly spoke with the Lord. Paul’s primary petition was that God would fill them with the knowledge of His will. The knowledge of God’s will does not come from a fleshly mind, but directly from the Holy Spirit who knows exactly what God wants to accomplish, and from the Word of God. God’s will, as revealed in the Bible, is made known to believers by the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. God desires that you would know His will. To this Paul added, through all spiritual wisdom, that is, practical know-how which comes from God, and understanding, which speaks of clear analysis and decision-making in applying this knowledge to various problems. By contrast, the false teachers offered only “an appearance of wisdom,” which captivated their minds and lives in legalistic regulations.

Challenge:

Who do you know that needs the knowledge of God’s will, wisdom, and spiritual understanding? If you desire to be a prayer warrior, may you carefully consider this simple and powerful prayer. Paul prays for things we don’t even think about. He prays under the inspiration of the Spirit, that the Colossians would know the will of God and walk worthy of Him, that they would be fruitful and strengthened with His might, and that they would be patient and full of joy. These are the important issues. These are the issues of eternity. So, if you want to know how to pray for your kids, your grandchildren, your folks, or your spouse, then this is how you must pray. I challenge you this week to pray for your loved ones and anyone else that God may place on your heart, that they would be filled with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. I like to go through the address book on my phone and see if the Holy Spirit places someone specifically on my heart and then I pray for them. When you are driving to work, pray for the people you work with. When you walk down your street, pray for your neighbors. Also, like Paul, let us make this a regular habit by not ceasing to pray for others. God bless you.
