2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Paul reminded Timothy that God’s words were given through men administered by the Holy Spirit so that their writings are without error. This fact was virtually taken for granted by the Jews. Paul then addresses the usefulness of the Word in each aspect of Timothy’s ministry, teaching (instructing believers in God’s truths), rebuking those in sin, correcting those in error, and training in righteousness (guiding new believers in God’s ways), for all of these and more the written Word of God is profitable. With it the man of God is complete, capable and proficient in the sense of being able to meet all of life’s demands. To drive home his point still more emphatically Paul added that he would be equipped for every good work. Paul was confident of Timothy’s commitment to and dependence on the Scriptures, and he was even more confident of God’s ability to supply all Timothy’s needs through the Word.
Challenge:
Have you been equipping yourself with Gods Word to do good things in His name? This does not happen automatically once you receive the Lord Jesus in your heart through salvation. You must read the Word, listen to the Word, study the Word and most importantly, obey the Word. Then, and only then, will you possess Gods Word in your heart and mind and be ready to go into the world and do good things for others with Gods power. Your challenge today is to share the Word of God with at least one person everyday. Share how God’s Word has encouraged you with a family member or co-worker. Tell a friend of how you want to be used by God before you get to heaven. By doing things like this you will have blessed someones day and feel blessed yourself. God bless you.
