James 1:17 – Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

We see in this verse that there are two separate words to describe God’s giving. The first word means “the act of giving” and is further described by the adjective for good, while the second denotes “the actual gifts received” and is preceded by the adjective for perfect. The first expression emphasizes the goodness of receiving something from God, while the second, the perfect quality of whatever God gives. God’s giving is continuously good for you; and His gifts are always perfect for your need. The great news is found in the last part of this verse, that God cannot change or alter His giving. He is a good giver and He does give to you exactly what is necessary for you. Although everything He creates goes through changes, He Himself cannot and will not ever change. You can be assured that what comes from His hand will be precisely what is best for you.

Challenge:

Do you consider all you have that is good in your life to have been given to you by God? Do you credit the situations that have worked out perfectly for you to have come from the hand of the Lord? The writer of Hebrews tells us that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8). His character is constant and He will never ever change. This assures you that you can always count on God to be there for you at the right time and in the right way. Your challenge this week is to share with others some of the many blessings God has given to you. Has the Lord given you the ability to discern right from wrong easily? Do you have a heart for the hurting in your community? Do you feel gifted at communicating Gods word in a simple and understandable way? Each of these qualities are greatly needed in the world you live in today. Ask the Lord to give you personal encounters to use your gifts to help others in need. Give of yourself today and share the good and perfect things God has given to you. You will be blessed for doing so and God will get all the glory! May the Lord bless your faithfulness.
