Joel 2:28 – And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions.

Joel looks forward to the glorious New Covenant, when the Spirit of God would be poured out on all flesh. Why, even your sons and daughters, your old men, and your young men would be filled with the Spirit of God. This was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost when the disciples gathered in the upper room, waiting in Jerusalem for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised would come. When the outpouring of the Spirit came, the 120 followers of Jesus were all filled with the Spirit and began to praise God in other tongues. Jerusalem was crowded at that time, because of the feast of Pentecost, so a crowd quickly gathered because of the commotion. Peter stood up and boldly taught that this was a fulfillment of Joel’s great prophecy of the outpouring of the Spirit. Under the New Covenant, every believer can receive the full measure of the Spirit, and be used in a special and wonderful way. How wonderful it is to know that God has abundantly provided His Holy Spirit to you.

Challenge:

You and I need to be constantly filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” For you to be an effective witness for Jesus, you need a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit of God. When you have a big decision to make for your future, you need the filling of the Holy Spirit. When you want to share the Gospel with someone who is lost or hurting, you need the filling of the Holy Spirit. When you desire to see the world we live in with the eyes and heart of Jesus Christ, you need the filling of the Holy Spirit. Your challenge for this week is to ask God for the fresh filling of His Spirit everyday, so you will be prepared for whatever the Lord places in your path. Who knows if God won’t give you a vision for someone, or show you a dream that will encourage you or a loved one. God bless you.
