Psalm 63:1 – O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.

It is faith, and faith alone, that can speak with such honesty like this. God, the Eternal One, transcends all human thinking. He is the Creator, the Redeemer, the Father. It was He whom David sought in this dry and desert place. Notice, David claimed God as his own, when he said, “You are my God.” Such a simple statement, yet one that holds a tremendously rich meaning. Is He your God? Do you know Him in this personal and intimate way also? Even though David had a close relationship with God, he also knew what it was like to be thirsty. He had hidden in caves down by the Dead Sea, and it is some of the driest land anyone has ever seen. California, Arizona, and New Mexico haven’t anything that can touch the dry land surrounding Engedi. It is a place where you can get thirsty very quickly! If you are ever over there, make sure that you have water with you. While in this state of physical thirst, David’s soul was reminded of his thirst for God. He knew that his physical thirst was satisfied with water and his spiritual thirst was satisfied by God.

Challenge:

Do you seek after God in the same way as David did in this verse? Do you have a strong love for God, or has He become a burden to you? Oh, that you might thirst for Him and seek Him in the way David and many others do! David made a commitment to seek the Lord early. Before anything or anyone else, God was who he went to first. To make God your first priority in life is your challenge for this week. First thing every day talk to God in prayer and ask Him what He has in store for your day. When trouble comes at you, immediately take your concern to Him and listen for His instructions on how you will make it through. Whether it is on your way to work or school or a doctor’s appointment, look around you and see who God wants you to speak to or pray with someone. Make God the One you seek first each and every day this week. Be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and find yourself blessed by being used in a way you have never been used before. May God bless you and give you a thirst for Him.
