Hebrews 12:3 – For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

Consider Him, think on Him constantly. Consider here involves the idea of comparison, as an accountant would compare the various columns of a balance sheet. You must compare your suffering to the pain and suffering Christ endured on your behalf. The early disciples of Christ rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for Jesus. How far we have come from those early believers.

Challenge:

Do you rejoice when you suffer? Do you consider it pure joy when you face trials? (James 1:2-3) If you are like me, this is a wonderful thought but very difficult to put into practice. However, James would not have said to do this if it were impossible. You can be thankful for your trials only by the strength of the Holy Spirit and your focus upon Jesus Christ. Notice the last part of this weeks verse, “… lest you become weary and discouraged.” If your mind is not firmly set on Jesus, you will be overcome  with defeat. So, your challenge this week is this, when you begin to feel stressed, stop and take a moment to think about Jesus. Ask God to strengthen you as you thank Him for sending His Son to live and die for you. This is what is meant by considering Him. God bless you.
