1 John 2:17 – And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

When a bank is failing, smart people do not deposit in it. When the foundation is unstable, intelligent builders do not proceed. Concentrating on this world is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Wise people do not live for a world that is passing away. It is the doing of the will of God that delivers you from the temptation of longing and holding onto the passing things of this world. That statement would be challenged by many men today who are confident that the world system in which we live, is as permanent as anything can be. But the world is not permanent. The only sure thing about this world system, is that it is not going to be here forever. One day all of this world’s ‘things’ will be gone, and the attractions within them will be no more. On the headstone of D. L. Moody, the great evangelist, is inscribed: “He who does the will of God abides forever.” May doing the will of God be the greatest endeavor of your life.

Challenge:

All that is in the world is based upon the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. But it’s all going to pass away. You can tell if you are spending too much time on temporal worldly things compared to eternal heavenly things, simply by looking at how much attention you pay to the things of this world. A person whose character and personality are shaped by obedience to God will not be affected by the passing away of the world and its vain desires. Your challenge this week is to seek to do God’s will more than you desire to accomplish your own will. You might be asking yourself, “what is God’s will for me?” To start with, be joyful in everything you do, pray for yourself, pray with others and finally be thankful for what is happening in your life even if it is unpleasant. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). By living a life of joy, prayer and thankfulness you will be doing the will of God and you will find His will to be very rewarding. This week, work at something which is permanent, something which has stability, something which is going to last for all eternity. God bless you.
