Galatians 5:6 – For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
The grace of God does not produce lazy Christians. James, the brother of Jesus, said “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” So you and I are alive when we exercise our faith. Not because you ‘have to’ but because you ‘get to’ show your faith through love. You get to worship the Lord. You get to start your day with morning devotions. You get to tithe and be free from your own greediness. You get to lift your hands. You get to share your faith. You don’t have to do those things. You get to. You have faith? Wonderful; but it must be faith working through love. If your faith doesn’t work, it isn’t real faith. If it doesn’t work through love, it isn’t real faith. But your love alone isn’t enough; your love must also have faith, which is an abiding trust in Jesus and what He did for you. Faith must work through love. Herod had faith that John the Baptist was a true prophet, but there was no faith working through love, and he had John the Baptist murdered. Real faith, saving faith, will work through love.
Challenge:
I know people who, on their day off, are always willing to help others with their projects that need to be done. For example, cutting grass or cleaning gutters or weeding flower beds, on their DAY OFF! Does that sound like a day off to you? So why do they do this? Because they ‘get to’ show their faith by loving on their friends. I challenge you this week, to find ways to display your faith with your loved ones by helping them with their physical necessities, spiritual needs, or emotional desires. Jesus said in John 13:35, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” How do you show someone you love them? You do something nice for them. You buy your wife flowers, or you send your husband a card, or you give your friend a gift for no reason at all, other than to let them know that you were thinking about them. Love is not only a feeling, love is an action that you show to someone special. How are you going to show that special someone in your life that you love them today? After all, acts of kindness are, in fact, acts of love. May the Lord bless you this week.
