Job 42:2 – I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.
Is this the kind of God you have? Can He do anything? Job is overwhelmed. He has had enough! He acknowledes the sovereignty of God. He confesses that he has spoken unadvisedly with his lips. He therefore saw clearly the greatness of God’s power and sovereignty. Job’s words “I know that You can do everything” point to the folly of his questioning God’s ability to govern the universe. This wonderful statement from Job was obviously connected to the impressive display of the power and might of God over creation; but it was also connected to the comfort that the sense of the presence of God brought to Job. God indeed could do everything. He could bring comfort and assurance to Job, even when Job still did not understand the origin or meaning of his crisis. What a wonderful confession from Job. “Forgive me, I spoke things I didn’t know anything about.” May the Spirit of God help us to be those who do not speak merely to hear our own voices.
Challenge:
Knowing God can do everything and that there is nothing He cannot do is so wonderfully assuring. There are those who would ask the question “If God can do anything, then can He make a rock so big He cannot pick it up?” That is the kind of question that comes from someone who does not understand the character of God. God does not do anything that does not display Himself righteously. God can do anything that is in line with His character and He does nothing that is contrary to His character as outlined within His word. Your challenge this week is to believe in the unlimited power, influence and abilities of the Lord. No matter what it is you find yourself going through or dealing with, be sure to bring them to God. He knows exactly where you are and what needs to be done to get you through. When you give something to Him be sure to keep your hands off and let God be God and do what He knows is best. We often times want to give them over to the Lord and then decide to help God give us His answer. It is always best to let Him bring you the answer when He is ready. Remember, as Job said to God, “No purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.” Faithfully believe this week and then watch how God will bless you.
