Deuteronomy 31:8 – And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.

Here we find Moses teaching the people the exact same life lesson that the prophet Isaiah had to learn. Which is, do not fear, God is with you. The sixth chapter of Isaiah starts out with, “In the year that King Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne…” Poor Isaiah! You see, Uzziah had been a good king, and now that he was dead, Isaiah thought things were really going to be bad. Another king would be raised up and the nation would just go back to its evil ways. But what did he find when he went into the temple? He found that God was still on His throne, that the real King of Israel and the real king of Judah was still seated on the throne. He wasn’t dead. He wasn’t even sick. Isaiah learned that although Uzziah had died, God was still very much alive. He is still alive today and He remains in control no matter how messed up our world, our country or our lives become. He will never abandon you. Therefore, you have no reason to fear or worry.

Challenge:

My friend, it is during your toughest and your darkest of days that remembering that the Lord is on His thrown brings you the greatest comfort. He is always in control, even when your circumstances appear to be to the contrary. Your challenge this week is to remember the words of Moses here in Deuteronomy 31, “He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Remind yourself constantly, that God Himself goes before you and you really do not need to fear. If you have lost someone that you loved deeply, say to yourself “He knows my pain.” When you hear yourself asking this question, “How did I get to this place in my life?”, lean on God’s strength and trust that He will carry you through. Jesus promised you that you would have difficulty in this life and that you would want to give up and quit. But Jesus also said to be of good cheer, for He had overcome the world. So trust that Jesus will help you overcome your fears, and continue upon the path that He has set out for you. Do not fear, Jesus is with you and He goes before you to guide you. To God be the glory in and through your life.
