Acts 8:35 – Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.

The eunuch wondered whether the Prophet Isaiah was speaking of himself or of some other man. This, of course, gave Philip the desired opportunity to tell how these Scriptures were perfectly fulfilled in the life and death of Jesus Christ. No doubt while he was in Jerusalem the Ethiopian had heard reports about a man named Jesus, but these reports would, of course, have cast Him in an unfavorable light. Now the eunuch learns that Jesus of Nazareth is the suffering Servant of Jehovah, of whom Isaiah wrote. Please note that Philip did not preach about Judaism, nor about denominationalism, nor water baptism, but Jesus. We all need to share more about Jesus than we do about the positions we hold on various topics in our society, politics or even our faith. People need Jesus more than they need to know our opinions about Jesus. They need a strong relationship with Jesus more than they need a close friendship with us. Philip did the best thing for this Ethiopian, he opened up the scriptures to him and led him to Jesus.

Challenge:

Are you leading anyone to Jesus? Does your life reflect the love of Jesus and the forgiveness of God? This is what everyone needs to understand. There are far too many people in this world that look at God as one who does not care about hurting people and their suffering. As a Christian, you have the amazing opportunity to show those people just how wrong that view of God is. Your challenge this week is to preach Jesus just like Philip did in this verse. Let your life be a glowing example of just how wonderful it is to have God in your life. Tell others what God has done in your past, and how He has protected you from evil. Show your co-workers what walking by faith and not by sight really looks like. Life does not always go the way you want it to, however, you want the Lord to have His way in the end anyhow. If you will look back at your past, I bet you can recount numerous times where God showed up and saved you from whatever you were dealing with at the time. Remember, that having a powerful testimony of how Jesus has worked, and continues to work in your life, speaks loudly to the people around you, and could help them with what they are currently experiencing. God bless you and keep you as you rest in Him.
